As a means of not feeling too guilty that I shall be missing the first 3 days of the new term by having a week in the sun, I decided to come in and help out the new first years and also see what activities they were up to.
Chris Harman who was a 3rd year when I started the course was in charge of the activity which was part of his long-standing initiative - 'The Den Experiment', which relies on participants to create their vision of a Den using the provided materials, the firs day this was simply bamboo cane and cable ties, with additional materials such as plastic wrap and foil added on the second day.
I found the approach really inspiring and the way the simplicity of the brief gave the project space to breath in an unpretentious manner was really nice to watch.
